Perl updating hash of arrays

In order to access a value in a hash you need to know the key.

Remember, keys are unique and each key has a single value.A hash is sometimes referred to as an associative array.Like a scalar or an array variable, a hash variable has its own prefix.Update: Some more digging and I've answered my own question: Old Perl Behavior(TM).This behaviour was changed in Perl 5.6.1 (changelog) to make access to hash elements faster.
